I promised to write you a song

I promised to write you a song

For when I first looked at you

I knew you would make tear well up in my eyes

I knew you were the one

Yet every time I take my pen

To start writing you a song

I can’t write more than a few words

I thought to write

Of how good it is to be your companion

How special it feels when we walk hand in hand

About our shared laughter

Of intimate conversations so deep, so special

That I want to be your confidant

as you lay bare your deepest thoughts

Bleeding out your heartaches freely to me

Making your dreams my own

I wanted to write

Tell you that you are so beautiful

But do I have words enough to describe your beauty

Won’t I fall short by comparing you with a beautiful bird

A bird that would fly away from me in time

Won’t I fall short by saying you are as beautiful as a rose

A rose whose petals wither away and drop off

Won’t I fall short by saying you are more beautiful

Like nothing I have ever seen before

Yet I have seen you

And you are something

And you are so beautiful

I could write

About you sheer strength of character

Of how you always keep you head high

That you remain strong even when weakness abounds around you

That struggles in life never make you fear to put your foot forward

That no one can claim they are your shoulder to lean on

Yet so many look up to you for that strength to go on

I should write

A song about your intelligence

How you understand me so deep and so true

Of your every choice of intelligent words when with me

Your sheer knowledge of the world over

About your ability to understand my self

Or of how you complete me

Maybe I should write

How you totally take me out of this world

Of how you pluck the breath out of my lungs

With your every exquisite touch

About how you run my mind through wild emotions

And run through my mind of  past wild moments of ecstasy

But I won’t write

For I find myself babbling

And so… I resolved

I will sing you a song instead

A universal song of adoration

One that will hide my fears

One that will lose my disenchantment

in the face of desperate pursuit

One that will always write a smile on your face

For all in all
